Week 30 - Start of Month 7

We are now into our third trimester! Here are some new things for Baby Smith:

·          Your baby is nearly three pounds now!

·          His head is getting larger to accommodate a period of rapid brain growth. Don't forget to continue to "teach" your baby in the womb by exposing to music, literature, and simply talking to him.

·          A pint and a half of amniotic fluid surrounds him. As he grows and fills your uterus, the amount of amniotic fluid will decrease. Funny, you certainly won't feel any lighter!

·          She spends more and more time practicing opening and closing eyelids. Her eyes can move from side to side, following a light source. She may even reach out to touch the light.

·          Early lanugo is beginning to disappear that served to protect your baby's skin from the water in the womb. Your little one's own hair may begin to appear.

·          Toenails are entering their final growth stage.

·          Bone marrow is now in charge of red blood cell production. These red blood cells will continue to service your child's body by transporting oxygen and removing the wastes (carbon monoxide and other gases).

·          Your baby has the capability now to produce tears -- yes, within the womb.

·          By the end of this week, your baby is now 15.7 inches (39.9cm) long and weighs 2.91 pounds (1319gm).

Since I recently switched to a new OB (was not on board with my original OB's style of practice) my new doctor wanted to check up on the location of my placenta so I went in for another ultrasound.  According to this last visit everything looks really good and my placenta has raised significantly off of the cervix which was great to hear!!  Baby Smith is right on track with himorher's size and development and my fluid levels are normal.  The above photos are of Baby Smith's profile (head, hand -by mouth- and belly) and a close up of Baby Smith's face (forehead, eyes, nose, mouth, chin).  It was pretty amazing to be able to see himorher move on the monitor while feeling it inside me at the same time - there really is a little baby in there it's not just indigestion!!!!

While my belly continues to grow with my baby I am still feeling great and have been able to keep up with all the things I normally do! My only complaints still are of heartburn and leg cramps that love to wake me (in a painful way) in the dead of night.

Last weekend I was at Hume Lake for a woman’s retreat with my church and was able to hoof it the two miles around the lake with some gal pals in 40 minutes.  I did ok even though I was huffing and puffing a bit more than normal due to the thinner air J

After a year and half or more of research and shopping Ryan finally found the family wagon he was looking for.  Please welcome the newest addition to the family (a girl according to Ryan).
