Baby Toys . . .

Case's new best friend is a golf ball! I found a couple in the closet a few days ago and brought them out to see what he would do with them and he loves them. I think it is a combination of their texture (hard, smooth & bumpy), their size (small enough for him to hold in one hand), their ability to roll (chases them all over the tile) and their ability to make different sounds when he bangs them on everything within reach.

I guess it is a good thing that we have not spent much money on fancy toys because he seems to prefer other things than "baby toys". Right now he spends most of his time, with his golf balls, an empty Costco-size diaper box (he stands up and pushes around the room like a walker and climbs on top of), an empty plastic container, a foot stool, and his crib (the mattress has been lowered to the bottom level because he pulls himself up and hangs on to the top rail trying to climb out).

We are also practicing how to get down to the floor from up in a chair. He sits at the edge of the chair between my legs with his feet dangling off to learn that the floor is farther than it looks. It took a couple of times of him lunging off and me catching him (before he hit the ground) for him to realize that "falling" doesn't feel right. So, now he'll sit at the edge and start to lean forward but will compensate before he goes over. I then remind him to turn over on his tummy and slide off feet first. It is so funny to watch him do this part because he clings to the chair like a little monkey and when his feet hit the floor you see the relief on his face, too cute. Then, of course, he wants to climb back up and do it all again, and again, and again . . .

Loves to wrestle with his Daddy but Daddy has an unfair advantage in size and weight so either Case is gonna get quick and tough or squashed!

We have also been enjoying the sun when we can and spend lots of time at the school/park exploring. I wish I had the video camera to capture his first experience in the baby swing at the park. When I put him in he was a bit cautious, then when I started to swing him ever so slowly he got the biggest (two teeth) grin on his face. So I thought he was enjoying it but then when I pushed it a bit faster he started acting like he was constipated! He had this awful grimace and was making these weird grunting sounds :). I pulled him out after a minute or two of this to check his diaper but there was nothing!!!

Case is also starting to really show a preference for Mom and Dad and shows some apprehension around people that aren't familiar to him. This past Sunday was the first time that I was paged to come get him because he was crying in the baby room (along with all the other kids). He was fine once I got there so we just stayed and played for the next 10 minutes until the service was over. That has got to be so upsetting to a baby when they panic when mom/dad aren't there!
