Busy Getting Ready For Our Bees

Ryan and Andy are driving up to Chico to pick up our package bees (110,000 of them) in just 3 more weeks so we have been busy getting ready for! We are expecting to have 100 hives ready for the girls to move into at the beginning of April then off the the orange orchards they will go to pollinate the trees.

Ryan and Andy use the steam cleaner to get the old nasty frames squeaky clean. The bees will use these as the basis of their honeycomb and 10 of these frames will hang in each box. After this weekend we are a little less than half way through cleaning the frames (see the second big brown box to Ryan's left overflowing with dirty frames).

Ryan and Lyns painting the 100 boxes to make them sparkling white.

Case doing a great job supervising.

Ryan and Andy showing the fruits of their labor. You can see how well the steam cleaner works! The frame in Andy's right hand is what we started with!

Looks like next weekend will be much of the same: cleaning and painting.
